Smart home FAQs

Straight answers on maintenance, internet needs and backup power.

How often does my system need maintenance?

Cameras, locks and fences should be inspected about every 6 months; solar panels cleaned every 3-6 months (more often in harmattan dust); and batteries checked yearly. We offer care plans.

Do I need good internet for smart home and CCTV?

Remote viewing needs a stable connection. A typical home needs 5-10 Mbps upload for a few cameras. Local control and recording continue even when the internet is down.

Will my security and smart devices work during a blackout?

Yes, if designed for it. We add UPS or solar-battery backup for cameras, routers, locks, gate motors and energisers so protection continues during outages.

How long will solar and batteries last?

Quality panels last 20+ years; lithium batteries typically 8-12 years depending on use; inverters 8-10 years. Proper sizing and care extend life.

Is electric fencing safe?

Yes, when installed to standard. Energisers deliver short, high-voltage, low-current pulses, with correct earthing, warning signs and clearances.

Can I control everything from my phone?

Yes. Lighting, locks, gates, cameras and solar monitoring can be viewed and controlled by app, and many by voice.
